Vanaf de oorsprong van het fietsen was staal het bouwmateriaal. Steeds vakkundiger werden framebouwers in het vormgeven van hun gedroomde topfietsen. In de tijd van ontwikkeling tot topsport is de techniek steeds verder verfijnd om prachtige lichte buizen te verwerken in steeds strakker rijdende fietsen, met hoogtijdagen tot in de laatste decennia van de vorige eeuw. De intrede van aluminium en carbon heeft de schoonheid van het racefietsontwerp sindsdien weinig goed gedaan. Topfietsen van vandaag mogen dan strakker fietsen dan ooit tevoren, ze zien er soms uit als de gebochelde van de Notre Dame.
Piedro en Bartolo bieden ranke, klassieke fietsen van Reynolds- en Columbusstaal, sierlijk en liefdevol met de hand gelast in Italië, Vlaanderen of Nederland. Merken als Colnago, Merckx, Gazelle, Faggin, Zullo, RIH, Moser en Pinarello komen regelmatig langs op deze pagina’s.
Bartolo is de man van de klassieke racers, hij vindt de mooiste kwaliteitsfietsen en knapt ze helemaal op naar bijna showroomstaat. Piedro knutselt graag aan fixies en bouwt soms oude racers om tot stijlvolle minimale fietsen met een vaste overbrenging.
O ja, we heten gewoon Peter en Bart, maar voegen ons met genoegen in de oude traditie van het gebruik van Italiaanse namen als Nederlanders in de wielersport ;-)

Italian, dutch and flemish steel racing bicycles
From the very start of competitive cycling, steel was the material of choice. Over the decades, frame builders got better and better at creating their dream bikes. As cycling grew bigger, so did the techniques of using the best and lightest tubes. They made increasingly tight geometries and handling, with their hay day in the 70s, 80s and a couple of years into the 90s. Since then, the growing success of aluminium and carbon has not at all improved the design aesthetics of the bikes. These materials may be lighter and stiffer, most modern racing bikes are about as pretty as the hunchback of the Notre Dame.
Piedro and Bartolo offer the nice and light frames, skillfully built in Italy, Holland, Flanders and France with Reynolds or Columbus tubes that are characteristic for the golden age of steel bikes. We search and find and restore bikes like Colnago, Merckx, Gazelle, Faggin, Zullo, RIH, Moser en Pinarello, and sometimes find rare classics of lesser known brands.
Bartolo is the man that has a special eye for classic racers, he finds and restores them to beauty and road-readiness. Piedro takes the pictures, runs the web site and sometimes builds fixies from classic racers.
By the way, we’re Dutch not Italian, our names are Bart and Peter but like so many in the Dutch and Flemish bicycle business from way back when, we thought an Italian name sounds much better ;-)
